SENSE OF PLACE | ART GALLERY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Seamlessly integrating fashion with the landmarks that form the beating heart of our city, our Sense of Place campaign is a celebration of who we are, where we have been, and the connection between place and art.
With its striking sandstone facade and Classic Revivalist architecture, the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) is an unforgettable landmark on Adelaide's cultural boulevard, North Terrace.
Exhibiting past masters, celebrating contemporary vision and inspiring the future, AGSA is a home for everything (and everyone) creative – including Curator of Decorative Art and Design, Rebecca Evans, who features in the AFW ‘Icons Only’ campaign.
This creative energy also makes the gallery the perfect backdrop for showcasing the diverse and dynamic fashion culture of Adelaide in the Sense of Place campaign. Bringing homegrown designers to the fore – including runway favourites Acler and couturier Paolo Sebastian (who previously collaborated with the gallery to present Paolo Sebastian: X) –you'll find sculptural fabrics, vivid palettes and masterfully embroidered dresses alongside contemporary and historic works of art.
ADL Fashion Week, presented by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency, is proud to have a strong relationship with the Art Gallery of South Australia; in 2022, AGSA hosted The Art of Fashion, an immersive event celebrating a diverse selection of South Australian designers, from ready-to-wear and couture to rising stars.
AGSA’s support for our creative industries doesn’t stop there; the power of textiles will be explored in AGSA’s upcoming Radical Textiles exhibition, celebrating the cutting-edge innovations, enduring traditions and bodies of shared knowledge that have been folded into fabric and cloth over the past 150 years. Radical Textiles runs 23 November 2024 – 30 March 2025.
